Why GU Was Created

Gurus Unleashed was created by Pariah S. Burke (me). It began as a service not only by me but also for me. As someone who is not only a designer but also a creative pro software author, consultant, trainer, and fan, I need to keep up with the latest news and information about Photoshop, InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, and Acrobat.

But that information is published across hundreds of sites, by hundreds of writers, every week. There’s no way I could visit them all, and information I needed slipped through the cracks. I built Gurus Unleashed (”GU”) to collect and categorize all that information for me. I could then get all the relevant information I needed in one place, categorized according to my favorite creative pro applications. In other words: GU prevents the critical Photoshop, InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, and Acrobat information I need from slipping through the cracks.

During the summer of 2008 it occured to me that other creative professionals might also like to keep up the latest Photoshop, InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, and Acrobat tutorials, tips, tricks, articles, news, and reviews in the same manner. Thus, I put a nice frontend on Gurus Unleashed and opened it to the public–it went into public beta 25 August 2008, and has been improving daily since then.

Although GU may appear at first blush to be fully automated, it isn’t. I’m here every single day. If I’m not adding or refining a new feature, tweaking the code, checking for broken links, or adding new gurus and publications, I’m reading the latest and best Photoshop, InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, and Acrobat tutorials, tips, tricks, articles, news, and reviews right alongside the thousands of readers like you who follow on GurusUnleashed.com, Twitter.com, or by e-mail and RSS.
